Overmolding cable assemblies involves injecting a material (thermoplastic or thermoset) into a mold cavity under high pressure. The injection molding machine consists of a hopper for mold resin and a heated barrel with heating elements. The mold resin is mixed with colorants, heated to a molten state, and injected into the mold cavities. The material cools, taking the form of the mold’s design, including logos, trade names, and part numbers.
